Crystals are the illusive and ancient pieces of glass like substances that are always a wonder to most people.
Cystals are formed in the earth’s core, in one of seven crystal systems, and each system has it’s own geometric properties and orientations.
They have been used in ancient times for rituals and in contemporary times to enhance certain qualities in a person or for healing purposes. This article is about the different uses of crystals and where you can get them.
Crystals have always been a part of most civilizations dating back to before medieval times. During this time they actually were brought to alchemists, so they could attempt to make gold out of them.
There are a variety of crystals, some very rare and others standard. Many people enjoy mining for their own crystals and there are places around the United States that you can do just that.
Others prefer to purchase their crystals from a lapidary sale or through the local gem store. Crystals are formed in a variety of styles, and if of gem quality, end up as polished stones or otherwise as uncut spheres and other shapes.
They can also be faceted like diamonds and placed into ring or necklace settings.
Crystals and Healing
Due to their geometric symmetry, there has long since been a tradition that certain types of crystals are said to have healing powers. This can be anything from actually creating a physical healing to changing the mind or body in some way. Here are a few gem stones and how they are said to heal:
Aventurine–if you have problems with circulation or congestion anywhere in the body this stone is said to help.
Coral–if you have emotional challenges it is a good idea to wear coral for relief and to balance the emotions.
Diamonds — besides being a girl’s best friend they also help with clarity. They help clear the mind and help the individual to focus more totally on what they need to do.
Jade — a great stone for relaxation, whether it is to relax the mind or the body. Some people place it specifically on an area of the body that needs relaxation.
In most cases for healing crystals are either worn or placed in strategic areas of the body.
Crystals and Vibrations
One of the ways that crystals work for anyone is through their vibrations. Some people are sensitive to different vibrations, and they can actually feel the differences in various stones.
Usually when picking a crystal, people suggest taking each one in your hand and then sensing the vibration within the crystal:
if it is strong pick it up, but if it is dull leave it. Some people can feel these vibrations, but there are many who cannot.
Gemstones vs. Crystals
In many ways crystals and gemstones are very similar because they both come from the earth, and they are both technically rocks. The biggest difference is
that crystals are usually clear to look through while gemstones are colored and translucent. Both can be polished to look quite beautiful.
Gems are precious or semiprecious depending on how rare they are or how easily you can find them. People also have a gem that is associated with their birth month which is usually called their birthstone. There are also crystals and gems that are associated with anniversaries.
