Mold Can Cause Damage to Your Home
If your property frequently has high levels of moisture in the air, you could be facing problems to your home and your health. High levels of moisture can result in an increase in molds, which can damage your health. A device called a dehumidifier (or luftbefeuchter in Germany as I discovered) can lower the levels of moisture within the air.
However, if you are always runnings a dehumidifier, you should consider checking your home for structural problems. Alternatively, if you are looking to buy a home, discovering any mold problems before you buy is extremely important.
When house hunting, you should consider any smells you find within the house. Certain smells are a good indication that there is a mold problem in the house. Even if you can smell bleach, this may be a sign that the current owners are trying to remove mold using the combination of bleach and water.
Most molds will create a musty smell in the house, particularly in and around bathrooms and basements.
A university in America is currently researching into a system which would allow you to look up what the air quality is in that area. Although you wouldn’t be able to tell what the air quality was like inside a home, you could get an idea. Generally if the outside has quite poor air quality, this will then spread into the homes and buildings in the area.
Unfortunately, this system is still be tested and it would involve sensors being places in the local area. Alternatively, if you are house hunting you could use a thermo-hygrometer to monitor the current air quality.
If you do currently have mold problems within your home, a dehumidifier is one way to control it. However, if you neglect the problem, it could get worse and potentially cause damage to your home. Fixing structural issues caused by mold can be expensive work and if it’s not resolved, the mold can affect your health.
I did find this strange, as I was researching for this post, I kept find the foreign equivalent words appearing. It’s strange hour the Mexican work for dehumidifiers, humidificadores, and the French word, humidificateurs, can be very similar, however, the German translation, luftbefeuchter, is totally different.
